I went to see Materialists last week and the main thing that struck me, aside from the intellectual curiosity and beautiful cinematography which set it aside from most romantic comedy dramas (and Pedro Pascal 😍), was the incredible apartment in which Pascal’s character lives. It got me thinking about other fictional homes/interiors. So here you are, the post that literally no one asked for:
Harry’s NYC apartment in Materialists
I don’t particularly want to live in New York right now but this $12m penthouse (the price is a key plot point) is The Dream. The floors! The furniture! The art! SWOON.
Barbary Lane
Anyone who has read the wonderful Tales of the City novels by Armistead Maupin will relate to my joy at visiting the real life inspiration for Barbary Lane on a visit to San Francisco. Maupin based his fictional community on Macondray Lane in Russian Hill, a pedestrian alley up some wooden steps and lined with lush greenery which hides a series of gorgeous wooden houses. I like to imagine these homes are filled with interesting joyful humans, much like his books.
Grace and Frankie’s beachfront house
I mean, any beachfront house would do me to be honest but this one in Malibu is particularly charming. A beautiful house with beautiful views, direct access to the ocean and a separate studio space? Yes please.
Harry's apartment was rather incredible! Massive bedroom and lounge but pokier kitchen.. as all NYC apartments seem to be.
Two other fictional houses I wouldn't mind living in:
1) Solene's house in The Idea of You - perfect in every way. In LA, a house that isn't ridiculously big, beautifully decorated.
2) Erica's stunning beach front house in Something's Gotta Give. And if it came furnished with Keanu Reeves - all the better.
